Balik Kampong: A Journey from Past to Present

In a nation full of skyscrapers lies the last remaining village on mainland Singapore, also known as Kampong Lorong Buangkok. Let’s go on an eye-opening Kampong Tour to relive the good old days and experience a slice of Singapore’s almost-forgotten history.

Together with our tour guide, we’ll discover the stories of the kampong and the tight-knit community who still resides here. Learn about the transformation of housing in Singapore, from villages to HDB, and find out about the transition process and the sacrifices that were made by its people.

As we explore the premises of this charming village where time seemed to have stood still, you’ll get a first-hand experience of life that existed before Singapore’s rapid urbanisation. Step into an actual kampong house, say hello to the residents and learn to play some old-school games (five stones, zero-point and more). You will also get to have a friendly chat with the owner (Mdm Sng) of Kampong Lorong Buangkok and hear some captivating stories about her life.

More than just a tour, this Kampong Experience offers Singaporeans an immersive dive into our cultural roots and identity. Through personal interactions and storytelling, we can preserve Singapore's cultural heritage and continue to tell the Singapore Story for future generations.

PROGRAMME ITINERARY (2 hours):

10am - Meet-and-greet tour guide at the entrance of Kampong Lorong Buangkok

10am to 11am - Guided walking tour around the premises of the kampong

11am to 1130pm - Visit a house belonging to the owner (Mdm Sng) of Kampong Lorong Buangkok for an insightful chat

1130pm to 12pm - Take part in some old-school local games (our tour guide will teach you how to play)

12pm - End of tour
