Peranakan Culture Tour & Nasi Ulam Heritage Workshop

The Peranakan Culture Tour & Nasi Ulam Heritage Workshop is a 3-hour immersive cultural experience by The Peranakan Club that presents Peranakan heritage as a living form of intangible culture.

Through a guided culture tour, participants explore the symbolic meanings of traditional objects and motifs, gaining insight into how values such as family, harmony, and continuity are embedded in everyday life. This is followed by a hands-on Nasi Ulam heritage workshop, where participants learn traditional preparation techniques and discover how food functions as a vessel of cultural memory and intergenerational knowledge.

The programme concludes with a guided reflection and curated Mini Peranakan High Tea, reinforcing the connection between heritage, community, and lived experience. Approximately 50% of the programme is centred on the F&B component, which is not merely consumption but a key cultural medium demonstrating how Peranakan traditions are preserved and transmitted through culinary practices.

Led by locally based facilitators and heritage practitioners, the programme supports Singapore’s Intangible Cultural Heritage objectives, offering participants a meaningful, participatory understanding of Peranakan culture beyond static displays.
