• Joo Chiat area was part of a coconut plantation zone dotted with attap-roofed kampung houses. named after Chew Joo Chiat, a wealthy landowner
• Area was regarded as an idyllic seaside retreat for the wealthy. Today, it is a repository of Peranakan and Malay culture through its 800+ conserved shophouses.
• We will explore the unique architecture, back alley murals and community institutions of this storied neighbourhood.
