About it

World Xiangqi Tournament Series 2026: Making History in Singapore

Singapore will make xiangqi history this November as it hosts the World Xiangqi Tournament Series 2026, from 9 to 15 November. For the first time, the World Xiangqi Open Tournament will be held in Singapore, marking its debut in Asia. This landmark event will also see the inaugural Under-18 category and, for the first time, all three major championships — Open, Youth and Rapid — hosted together by a single nation.

The tournament has attracted record participation in both the Open and Youth categories, bringing together established international players and rising young talents from 17 countries and regions, including China, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Chinese Taipei, Malaysia, Russia, Germany and the United States. Singapore will also field a record number of homegrown players, offering local talents a rare opportunity to compete against some of the world’s finest on home ground.

Adding to this historic occasion, Singapore will welcome two renowned xiangqi personalities from China — Grandmaster Wang Bin (王斌) and Master Wu Wenhui (武文慧) — who will provide live-streamed tournament commentary and share their expertise with local audiences. Beyond the championships, members of the public can participate in a special series of ticketed fringe activities, “名师面对面 — 棋艺再升级”, from 10 to 15 November at the Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre. From interactive workshops, advanced strategy lessons and cultural exchanges to a simultaneous exhibition against Grandmaster Wang Bin and family-friendly sessions with Master Wu Wenhui, these activities offer something for everyone, from young beginners to seasoned enthusiasts.

Organised by the World Xiangqi Federation, co-hosted by the Singapore Xiangqi General Association (SIXGA) and the Asian Mind Sports Association (AMSA), with the Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre as venue partner, the tournament celebrates more than sporting excellence. It brings to life a centuries-old cultural tradition that connects generations and transcends borders through the shared language of strategy and friendship. While the international competitions are not open to public attendance, the excitement extends beyond the competition hall — and everyone is invited to be part of it! Whether you are discovering xiangqi for the first time, looking to sharpen your skills, or hoping to introduce your children to this fascinating game, seize this rare opportunity to learn directly from world-class masters. Bring your family and friends, experience the thrill of xiangqi up close, and be part of this historic celebration in Singapore. Register now for the fringe activities — places are limited!
