About it
Soft, crisp, and delicious - jemput-jemput, or fritters, are a beloved snack, whether sweet or savoury. From ikan bilis and prawns to bananas and hotdogs, come explore the shifting snackscapes of Singapore and see what a humble fried treat can tell us about the extinction of unassuming, everyday experiences that make up our cultural fabric.
Participants will be invited into the kitchen to trace how a seemingly simple snack supports communities and families through the process of making the jemput-jemput, as we unpack “snackscapes” in Singapore - and see what the in-between meals can tell us about the way our communities live.
About the Programme Series Rooted in the living heritage of Geylang Serai, this pilot incubator programme at Geylang Serai Heritage Gallery invites Heritage practitioners to deepen their practice and reach new audiences by drawing on the rich stories and communities that have shaped this neighbourhood for generations.
The first edition, led by Sendok Rakyat, brings together practitioners to spark fresh curiosity and connection with Geylang Serai, creating experiences that resonate beyond the gallery . Each programme is supported by Wisma Geylang Serai and contributes to the broader Geylang Serai Cultural Belt rejuvenation efforts.
