About it
As authors Cheryl Buckley and Hazel Clark introduce in their book Fashion and Everyday Life, “the ordinary is an important component of the everyday.” Garments are objects so familiar and ordinary that they often escape notice, yet their materiality holds potent potential for storytelling and memory work.
This workshop embraces the apparent banality of getting dressed, alongside the awe and spectacle that garments evoke. Participants are encouraged to register independently or in pairs and to bring one of their most worn garments for close analysis.
What can be revealed about care, identity, relationships and memory when we examine the clothes we choose to wear? Participants will be guided to craft narrative biographies of their garments and reflect on the intimate joys and lived experiences these objects hold.
