About it
The Magical Basket is a fun, hands-on experience that weaves together storytelling, culture and craft.
In the first half of the activity, children will follow the main character Xiao Ming as he delivers ang ku kueh in a magical Peranakan basket to his grandfather. Along the way, they will explore stories behind the basket, discover Singapore's traditional culture and early occupations, and learn how everyday objects can quietly hold precious memories of individuals and families.
In the second half, children will weave their own paper basket and use clay to make their very own ang ku kueh. Through this hands-on process, they will experience the joy of sharing and giving, and come to understand how traditional culture binds individuals, families and communities closely together.
