Cutting Through Culture: Chinese Paper Cutting Workshop

Discover the beauty of Chinese Paper Cutting (剪纸) in this 1.5 hours hands-on workshop that introduces a timeless folk art rich in symbolism and cultural meaning. Traditionally used to decorate windows, doors and festive spaces, paper cuttings often represent blessings such as good fortune, happiness, and longevity.

Participants will learn about the history of paper cutting and its role in Singapore’s Chinese communities, especially during celebrations like Chinese New Year and weddings. Guided step by step, they will practise folding, symmetrical cutting and motif creation to produce their own meaningful designs.

Note: The workshop will be conducted either at Arts Resource Hub @ 42 Waterloo Street or a classroom at Waterloo Centre. Both locations are located within 3 mins walk from Bras Basah MRT Station Exit E and 5 mins walk from Bencoolen MRT Station Exit B. Participants will receive an email with the exact location at least three days before the workshop.
