Hand Cloth Puppets Making: Crafting Characters, Telling Heritage

Hand Cloth Puppets Making is a 1.5 hours hands-on workshop that introduces participants to the cultural roots of hand cloth puppetry. Traditionally used in folk storytelling, temple festivities and community gatherings, these puppets played an important role in early Singapore as tools for entertainment, education and passing down values and legends.

Participants will learn about the history and symbolism of hand cloth puppets before crafting their own characters using cloth and simple materials. Through guided making and storytelling, the workshop highlights how puppetry connects visual art with oral heritage across generations.

Note: The workshop will be conducted either at Arts Resource Hub @ 42 Waterloo Street or a classroom at Waterloo Centre. Both locations are located within 3 mins walk from Bras Basah MRT Station Exit E and 5 mins walk from Bencoolen MRT Station Exit B. Participants will receive an email with the exact location at least three days before the workshop.
