Discover the expressive art of alla prima, a direct oil painting technique completed in one sitting. In this beginner-friendly workshop, you will paint wet-on-wet and learn to focus on large shapes, light and shadow, colour mixing and confident brushwork. There is no drying time between layers; alla prima encourages you to make thoughtful decisions, work freely and enjoy the painting process without becoming caught up in small details. You will learn how to balance drawing, colour and paint texture while creating a fresh and lively landscape study. This technique is ideal for participants who enjoy a spontaneous approach or would like to loosen up their painting style. It is particularly well suited to small compositions, simple subjects and expressive, painterly artwork.
All materials are provided.
Theme options include: landscapes, seascapes, florals, Sunset skies, simple still-life objects There are also hundreds of palette knife reference images available in the studio for inspiration. Participants are welcome to bring their own reference image, though not all images may be suitable. You can check with the instructor on the day to see if your image is achievable :)
Workshop Duration: 2.5 Hours
