About this event

The Dizi (笛子), a traditional Chinese bamboo flute, is an important part of Singapore's Chinese musical heritage. This hands-on workshop introduces participants to the history, cultural significance, and unique playing techniques of the Dizi. Participants will experience the sound world of the instrument through live demonstrations, storytelling, and guided practice.

In line with SG Culture Pass objectives, the workshop will also incorporate knowledge transfer and appreciation of local arts, including sharing about Singapore's Chinese music scene, local Chinese orchestras, prominent Singaporean musicians, and opportunities to engage with local arts activities.

By the end of the session, participants will be able to produce basic notes, play simple rhythms, and appreciate the role of the Dizi in Singapore's cultural tapestry.
