About it
Have you ever thought of a neighbourhood as an open gallery of stories, memories and lives, layered across generations? This programme invites you on a literary walk and dialogue to rediscover Little India through the stories embedded within it.
Once home to street tailors, parrot astrologers and dhobis, Little India is well-known for its bustling streets, textile shops and beloved eateries. Through a guided walk of selected murals in the neighbourhood led by writers Ganga Baskaran and Hemalatha, discover the historical, cultural and social narratives reflected in public art, and learn how migration, labour and community life have shaped the urban landscape.
The journey concludes at the Indian Heritage Centre with a conversation featuring writers Subramaniam and Uma Kathir, whose writing captures the stories and lived experiences of the diverse communities in the area.
