About this event
Have you ever wondered how those delicate cut-outs in summer dresses or kebayas are made, or wished you could turn a tiny hole in your blouse into something beautiful instead of hiding it? Broderie Anglaise lets you do exactly that—transforming fabric with graceful, lacy openings and stitched details. In these Broderie Anglaise workshops, textile artist Agatha “Agy” Lee shares how this heritage technique continues to live on in her art practice. Drawing from her own artwork, she introduces Broderie Anglaise as both a functional and expressive stitch language.
This Eyelets and Stems workshop is suitable for sewists who want to learn the basics of broderie anglaise. Guided by textile artist, Agy, you will learn how to make stem stitches, basic eyelets with satin stitch, and buttonhole stitches. These are the foundation stitches for creating beautiful patterns on fabric. Participants will learn how carefully placed holes, stitched edges and negative space can introduce lightness and texture into fabric. Along the way, Agy will share practical tips and techniques for working cleanly and confidently, helping you transform everyday materials into delicate textiles.
