About this event
In a land scarce Singapore surrounded by high-rise flats, explore the last surviving village in Singapore, Lorong Kampong Buangkok. Learn how it has stood the test of time while stepping into the past as you experience wooden homes with zinc roofs, free-roaming chickens, fruit trees, and the simpler life.
On this heritage tour, we find out about the lives of the people here including stories from the village chief Mdm Sng. Learn about the origins of this humble kampong and the challenges it faced as Singapore rapidly urbanised around it. Discover how villagers once lived with limited modern conveniences, and how strong neighbourly bonds and kampong spirit became an important part of everyday life. Along the way, uncover old traditions, childhood games, and disappearing ways of living that continue to survive quietly within this last remaining village.
