About this event

Cook Singapore's Famous Chicken Rice with a Local Hawker – A Hands-On Food Experience

Go beyond just eating Singapore's national dish — step into the shoes of a local and learn how real hawkers prepare it from scratch.

Your experience starts at a traditional wet market. This is where Singaporeans shop for fresh ingredients every day. With your guide, you'll walk through the stalls, see how locals choose the best chicken and produce, and understand how food culture begins long before it reaches the table.

Next, head to Hua Kee Cantonese Chicken Rice at Toh Yi Drive, a real neighbourhood hawker stall — not a tourist kitchen. Here, a local hawker will show you how this famous dish is actually made in Singapore homes and stalls.

To make it fun and immersive, you'll even dress up in a classic hawker-style outfit, just like old-school street food sellers in Singapore.

Then comes the hands-on cooking. You won't just watch — you'll do it yourself. Learn step-by-step how to prepare tender poached chicken, flavourful rice cooked in chicken broth, and the signature chilli and ginger sauces that give Singapore chicken rice its addictive taste. You'll also pick up simple local side dishes that complete a typical hawker meal.

Finally, after all your effort, sit down and enjoy the meal you've cooked together with your group. It's a true "from market to table" experience.
